Kane investigation: Victim’s friends offer defense

Chicago Blackhawks forward and Buffalo native Patrick Kane.

The news continues to break in the investigation into rape allegations against Buffalo native and NHL star Patrick Kane. The Buffalo News published a story this morning including quotes from several coworkers and friends of the alleged victim in the case. Friends described the victim as having gone to Kane’s Hamburg home on the night in question because a friend wanted to go.

The friends all criticized Buffalo bar owner Marc Croce, whose comments in a News article last week hit a nerve with many when he described a young woman as hanging all over Kane while he and friends drank at Croce’s Buffalo nightclub SkyBar. Croce admitted he was not sure if the woman he saw drinking with Kane earlier in the night was the same woman who later said the hockey star sexually assaulted her.

Additionally, WLVL news partner WGRZ-TV reports there are not any type of settlement discussions in the works between Kane and the victim that would result in her agreeing not to pursue criminal charges. Citing anonymous sources, Channel 2 says that instead, both sides are awaiting the results of a forensic examination done in the hours after the altercation took place.
