Beagles freed from testing facility

As 1,500 beagles rescued from the Ridglan Farms breeding facility in Wisconsin continue to be relocated, including some brought to Western New York, lawmakers are pushing for stronger government action to end invasive animal testing. U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy said he is urging federal officials to stop taxpayer funding for research involving dogs and cats bred for experimentation. The ultimate goal is to cease testing for good.

Two men shot, both ended up at ECME, police investigating

Buffalo police are investigating a shooting that injured two people Friday night. BPD says that at around 9:30 pm Friday, officers responded to a shooting near East Ferry Street and Kilhoffer Street. Police found a man who had been shot in the arm and upper leg, he was taken to ECMC for treatment. olice say that another man walked himself into ECMC with gunshot wounds to his arm and leg at around the same time

From old railway to beautiful grass

A long-planned project to transform an old rail corridor into public green space could be on track toward its next phase, with funding secured for initial work. The proposed greenway along Buffalo’s waterfront now has about $2 million in federal and state funding in place.

Homelessness in Western New York has reached a record high, with a 2026 Point-in-Time count by the Homeless Alliance of Western New York identifying 2,188 people experiencing homelessness, a 24% increase from 2025. This is the highest number recorded since tracking began in 2005, driven by evictions, job loss, and domestic violence across Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming counties. The United Way of Greater Niagara presented its annual Caring Cup Award to the employees of General Motors Lockport and the United Auto Workers Union.
