Two people, an 83-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman, were killed in a rollover crash on Ridge Road in Lockport on Wednesday night. It happened in the 5300 block of Ridge Road, near Stone Road and Town Line Road. An out-of-town contractor working on the Amazon distribution facility project in the Town of Niagara has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash on Buffalo Avenue early Sunday morning.Two people being held in the Niagara County Correctional Facility are facing additional charges following an assault in the jail. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says the assault happened inside the Niagara County Correctional Facility in Lockport on March 24 just after 5pm.Community leaders announced Wednesday that a day of service and remembrance will be held on May 14 to observe four years since the tragic mass shooting that took place at a Tops supermarket on Buffalo’s east side in 2022.The Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins enter Game 3 of their first-round playoff series tied at one game apiece as the series shifts to TD Garden on Thursday night.

A deadly crash last night in the 5300 block of Ridge Road. A 2021 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling westbound on Ridge Road when it left the roadway on the north side, struck a culvert, and subsequently rolled over multiple times. The operator of the vehicle, an 83-year-old male from Cheektowaga, and the passenger, a 73-year-old female from Williamsville, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. A Cheektowaga man is facing up to five years in prison and a potential $250,000 fine after pleading guilty to stealing over $85,000 from a local union where he had been serving as president. Officials said that David Martinez, 58, embezzled around $87,542 from the International Association of EMTs and Paramedics, Local 394. Amherst Police are investigating a fatal stabbing that took place shortly before noon on Wednesday. on Draden Lane, where officers found a man who had been stabbed in the upper body. The victim was taken to DeGraff Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.AAA shares that it’s actually cheaper to see the Sabres play at TD Garden than to get playoff tickets to a game at KeyBank Center, due to the Sabres playoff drought.

A Niagara Falls man is facing up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to a narcotics conspiracy. Officials said 46-year-old Edwin Miguel Batista was arrested after authorities conducted search warrants on a storage unit at Fashion Outlets Boulevard, a vehicle and a hotel room. A house fire in the Town of Hartland on Monday night is under investigation, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say around 11:15 p.m., they received a 911 call about a house fire on Asher Street. Once at the home, first responders evacuated the residents and were able to extinguish the fire. No injuries have been reported.Notre Dame High School athletic director Michael Rapone has been arrested and is now facing harassment charges. The 72-year-old from Batavia was arrested on Monday after police said they received a complaint that Rapone allegedly made inappropriate and unwanted physical contact with another individual at Batavia Downs for “no legitimate purpose.”The Community Benefits Oversight Committee, which oversees maintenance and operations for the new Highmark Stadium, hosted another meeting on Monday night. Much of Monday’s agenda included talks about concessions around the stadium, which will be led by Legends Global.

Police responded to the area of 11476 Sisson Highway, between Shirley Road and Genesee Road, around 6 a.m. Saturday, where a dump truck had rolled over and hit a tree. The 59 year old driver dead at the scene. The Lockport City School District Board of Education has authorized a public vote on a proposed $17.5 million capital improvement project with jobs including a 12,000 square foot addition at George Southard Elementary School to make it the new home of the district’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten program.Niagara Falls police have reportedly located the suspected driver following a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian early Sunday morning on the 8700 block of Buffalo Avenue.A Jamestown man was sentenced to 20 year in prison on Monday in the death of an 8-month-old baby in 2024, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office said. Sean Thomas, 28, shook and strangled the baby, Aniyah Turk, on April 22, 2024. The baby was placed on life support and died the following month.The University At Buffalo has been awarded a new grant meant to support WNY's Afghan community. The grant, awarded by the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH), will allocate $200,000 to support services for the local Afghan refugee communities, including training staff, UB said in the announcement.

Ticks are causing increase in Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases

New York wildlife officials are urging residents and visitors to take precautions against ticks. According to New York State Parks Department, tick activity has already been reported in multiple areas of New York as temperatures rise. Officials warn that increased outdoor activity during the warmer months can raise the risk of exposure. Across the state cases of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses are increasing.

Police in the right place at the right time

Buffalo Police have released surveillance and body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting at a 7-Eleven on Prospect Avenue, which they happened to walk up to. The Buffalo Police Department has previously stated that two on-duty officers were walking into the store at the corner of Connecticut and Prospect when they saw the armed robbery in progress through the front window.

Earth Day early celebrations

People in Buffalo and North Tonawanda got an early start on Earth Day celebrations on Saturday, taking part in cleanup and planting projects aimed at improving eighborhoods restoring public spaces, and honoring local history.In Buffalo, volunteers gathered at a once-vacant city lot that has been transformed into a community garden. Organizers said the event was about more than landscaping and beautification.

Special waste collections to help non-profits

The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning is partnering with local organizations to host special waste collection events in Williamsville and Buffalo. Officials said registration is required for both events, with appointments available on a first-come, first-served basis. Erie County residents can safely dispose of unwanted household items during these two free opportunities in May.

Erie County is launching more than $50 million in road and bridge improvements this year, with projects planned across the county. County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced the 2026 construction plan on Friday. It includes work from Hamburg to Cheektowaga and dozens of miles of roadway upgrades as warmer weather arrives.

Rollover crash sends 2 to hospitaL

Two people were hospitalized following a single-car rollover crash on the 290 on Saturday morning. The crash happened along the 290 East at Exit 7A in Amherst. That's where first responders found a vehicle that left the roadway and was turned onto its side, leaving both people trapped inside.They were extricated and taken to ECMC.

Crack down on impaired drivers

4/20 is almost here, and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office is reminding residents to celebrate on their couch, not behind the wheel.Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti announced Friday that local law enforcement agencies will be participating in a statewide effort to crack down on impaired driving on Monday, April 20.

BFD investigating house fire

The Buffalo Fire Department is investigating a house fire that broke out early Friday morning. According to a spokesperson for BFD, the fire started around 4:22 a.m., in a 2.5-story home located at 938 Clinton Street. The fire reportedly started in the second floor and spread to the attic. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control a short time later.
