The City of Niagara Falls has been under a state of emergency for the past three-and-half weeks, Mayor Robert Restaino declared the state of emergency on July 20, In a statement, Restaino blamed the City Council for failing to approve funding for various public safety measures. The mayor said he declared the state of emergency due to “impending and urgent threats or dangers to public health and public safety.”The radiological survey of Niagara and Erie counties appears to have now extended into Niagara Falls, with soil sampling taking place on Jerauld Avenue. Several New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and US Environmental Protection Agency employees were seen working in Niagara Falls on Thursday.Six people have been displaced and are being cared for by the Red Cross, while a firefighter suffered an ankle injury after a fire on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Buffalo Wednesday night.
