The incident occurred during a cleaning detail when incarcerated individual, Myquaveon Jones, struck a corrections officer in the face with a closed fist. The Niagara County District Attorney's Office announced that 53-year-old Thomas H. Summers, Jr. of Newfane pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter after a deadly crash in July 2025.The DA said Summers admitted to driving his truck while impaired by the combined influence of cocaine, methamphetamine, and oxycodone, which caused a crash that killed his passenger, 48-year-old Rodolfo Espinoza

Justin Essa, 33, of Kenmore, has been charged with one count of third-degree criminal mischief and one count of petit larceny. Amherst Police have identified the driver that was killed in the Wehrle Drive crash.Matthew Mayer, 20 from the Town of Tonawanda died in the July 6 crash at 784 Wehrle Drive, where a vehicle crashed into a building and caught fire. Western New York’s only community blood bank, ConnectLife, says donations have dropped by half this July compared to the same time in 2025.If you're planning to head downtown to the Taste of Buffalo, you should plan for road closures. A Chautauqua County manufacturing plant will lay off a total of 79 workers later this year. Saint-Gobain Ceramics & Plastics, which has a plant in Falconer, will begin laying workers off in September. The reason listed for the layoffs is “economic.” Buffalo Police are investigating six separate shootings that happened in less than 24 hours over the 4th of July holiday. Twelve people were hurt in the shootings which occurred between late Saturday evening and early Sunday morning.Two people are dead after two shootings in the Cataract City the morning after the 4th of July holiday.Niagara Falls City Council members are being asked to take the next step in efforts to develop a proposed entertainment and sports complex by approving the creation of a local development corporation (LDC). The Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club will soon be offering additional daycare options for local parents. The nonprofit organization will begin offering programing at 4520 Military Road later this month, pending an inspection from the State Office of Children and Family Services on July 9.

Two people are dead and another is hurt following a pair of overnight incidents in the City of Niagara Falls. The first was male hit by gunfire at around 1am at Fairfield and Highland avenues. The second happened around 3 a.m. in the area of Niagara Street and 30th Street after reports of a large party and gunshots.The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide death of an inmate at the Erie County Holding Center. The Sheriff’s Office said 27-year-old Antonio Pizarro was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday. Two people were hospitalized after two boats crashed on Chautauqua Lake Saturday night. It happened just after 11 p.m. near Prendergast Point on Chautauqua Lake. After years of early endings, Jessica Pegula will be retuning to the quarterfinal round at Wimbledon after defeating Iva Jovic Sunday. Buffalo Bills fans will have an extra chance to see the team this summer with an additional open practice inside the new Highmark Stadium. The extra practice will take place Aug. 18.
