A Grand Island Bridge search was underway in Western New York after authorities said a man jumped from the South Grand Island Bridge into the Niagara River, triggering a large emergency response involving law enforcement and marine rescue crews.The incident occurred Friday evening. She declared having a Taurus 9mm handgun.Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal announced the Wilson Burt Road bridge over 18 Mile Creek in the Town of Newfane will be closed to all motorists beginning Monday, Aug. 24. The bridge is expected to be closed for three days. The closure is needed to provide access for diving inspection of two piers, which will be repaired as part of phase II of the project. That work could begin in spring 2028.A 68-year-old man was arrested after police executed a search warrant on Lower River Road on Aug. 21st.Harold S. Hopkins, of Lewiston, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, The arrest resulted from Hopkins’ failure to comply with a court order to surrender firearms as the result of an order of protection.Police seized nine firearms during the search.
