Homelessness in Western New York has reached a record high, with a 2026 Point-in-Time count by the Homeless Alliance of Western New York identifying 2,188 people experiencing homelessness, a 24% increase from 2025. This is the highest number recorded since tracking began in 2005, driven by evictions, job loss, and domestic violence across Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming counties.
