Niagara Falls Police city and law enforcement officials addressed the failure of the City Council to authorize a 14th year of participation in the state’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative. The program has been credited with a steep decline in virtually every category of gun-related crimes. New York State Thruway Authority leaders took to the water on Wednesday to survey the Grand Island bridges as officials discuss short- and long-term plans for the structures.Work on the South bridges is already underway, costing $54 million. A judge from outside Erie County will now preside over a misdemeanor gun case against former Erie County Sheriff’s Narcotics Chief Daniel “DJ” Granville. Granville was charged with unsafe storage of a gun after the weapon was allegedly found in an abandoned Tesla near Buffalo City Hall in May. New York senators are pushing a bill to rename a Buffalo post office in honor of the “father of American intelligence.” Officials said the bill would designate the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood post office as the William J. Donovan Post Office Building.
