The Lockport City School District Board of Education has authorized a public vote on a proposed $17.5 million capital improvement project with jobs including a 12,000 square foot addition at George Southard Elementary School to make it the new home of the district’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten program.Niagara Falls police have reportedly located the suspected driver following a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian early Sunday morning on the 8700 block of Buffalo Avenue.A Jamestown man was sentenced to 20 year in prison on Monday in the death of an 8-month-old baby in 2024, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office said. Sean Thomas, 28, shook and strangled the baby, Aniyah Turk, on April 22, 2024. The baby was placed on life support and died the following month.The University At Buffalo has been awarded a new grant meant to support WNY's Afghan community. The grant, awarded by the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH), will allocate $200,000 to support services for the local Afghan refugee communities, including training staff, UB said in the announcement.
